Foundations of Art

Foundations of Art is a 1 year elective course offered to all students in grades 9-12 without prerequisite. Foundations of Art is the prerequisite course for all other art classes. The first semester involves basic introduction to the elements and principles of design while exploring different types of media. The second semester involves use of media while exploring art history and careers in the arts.

Creative Drawing

Creative Drawing is a 1 semester course offered during the fall semester. This course is offered for students in grades 10-12. It is a prerequisite for Painting. In this course, you will learn the psychology of drawing using the right side of your brain. Find out what drawing methods work best for you while exploring contour, still life, figures, and perspective drawing.

Ceramics

Ceramics is a 1 semester course offered to students in grades 10-12 during the spring semester. The course involves the study of clay and its properties. Students will learn hand building methods such as pinch, coil, drape, and slab construction. Students will also experience throwing pottery on the wheel and the use of an extruder. Students will also learn and choose from various methods of applying color. If you do not earn a "C" grade or higher, you may not be eligible to take an art class the next semester.

Painting

Painting is a 1 semester course offered in the spring semester to students in grades 10-12. Painting is explored as a means of communication while students learn about the media of watercolors, acrylic, and pastel painting. Color theory is covered as well as different media tricks and techniques.

Sculpture

Sculpture is a 1 semester course offered in the fall semester to students in grades 10-12. Sculpture explores the concepts of form and balance while creating 3D works of art. A variety of media will be explored including clay, wire, wood, paper maché, plaster, and found objects. Students will learn about various sculptors and their work.

Graphic Design

Graphic Design is a 1 semester course offered in the spring semester to students in grades 11-12. This course, offered in the spring semester will concentrate on the fast growing field of commercial art.  It requires Foundations of Art as a prerequisite.  Students will work with Adobe Photoshop to create the type of art that we are bombarded with in our everyday lives. 

Photography

Photography is a 1 semester course offered in the fall to students in grades 11-12. Photography covers how cameras work and how to produce better pictures using photographic elements of composition. The development of photography and how it has affected our history will also be covered. Students must have access to a camera to use. There will also be expense in film and developing.

***In all art courses, if you do not earn a "C" grade or higher, you may not be eligible to take an art class the next semester.***
